Meet Miranda...

Miranda is currently in her 5th year of study in the oldest, continuously ABET-accredited Architectural Engineering program in the country. In May of 2019, she will graduate with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree, with a focus in construction management, from the Pennsylvania State University. Throughout her time at Penn State, Miranda has been a member of the Student Society of Architectural Engineers (SSAE) and the Women in Engineering Program (WEP).

Miranda has acquired various internships throughout her college career. Having spent all of her summer and winter breaks working for general contractors, she has gained an invaluable hands-on education and immense satisfaction from participating in projects from conceptual design through substantial completion. The majority of Miranda’s internship experience comes from her time working as an assistant project manager for Heck Construction Company. At Heck, she spent most of her time designing, estimating, scheduling, and managing small projects entirely on her own. This high level of responsibility gave Miranda much pride and fulfillment, while allowing her to further develop her project management skills.

Following graduation, Miranda has secured a position as a project engineer with a reputable contractor in Raleigh, North Carolina. She hopes that this position will afford her the opportunity to expand her knowledge of the building industry and enhance her leadership skills. Outside of academics, Miranda enjoys hiking, cooking, and spending time with her dog, Sadie.

PENN STATE ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING SENIOR THESIS

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web-based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year-long senior thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between students, faculty advisors, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Penn State Department of Architectural Engineering. For an explanation of this capstone design course and its requirements click here.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work in progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Miranda Weitzel. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
